Can boys and girls room together at UCF? ›

All of our housing facilities default to single gender suites or apartments, meaning all roommates within a suite are of the same gender identity. Each applicant has the opportunity to create a profile for roommate matching purposes.

University of Central Florida has a total undergraduate enrollment of 58,749 (fall 2022), with a gender distribution of 45% male students and 55% female students. At this school, 13% of the students live in college-owned, -operated or -affiliated housing and 87% of students live off campus.

There are many off-campus student apartment complexes surrounding the campus, with features such as individual leases, furnished units, and included utilities. The office of Neighborhood Relations maintains the Off-Campus Housing Website to help connect students to housing options off-campus.

In total, approximately 50 schools in the U.S. are currently allowing men and women to room together, though participation is still fairly low. The movement started as a way to better serve some gay, bisexual or transgender students who may prefer to live with a member of the opposite sex.

Each school is very different. There are colleges that have women-only dorms, but in general, dorms are mixed gender. From there it varies hugely by college, and dorms within any given college. Some alternate gender by floor or wing, others don't.

Cost Comparison between Dorm Living and Off Campus Living

Off-campus apartments tend to be more costly than dorm rooms; however, they often provide more amenities and higher levels of comfort. Also note that off-campus housing requires paying utilities such as gas, electricity, and water bills which may add up quickly.

As of Fall 2023, the student population is around 70,000 split between undergraduate and graduate students. In terms of racial and ethnic diversity, UCF is quite varied. According to the most recent statistics I could find, about 45% of students identify as White, 29% as Hispanic, and around 10% as Black.

Are freshmen required to live on campus? No, first-year students are not required to live on campus. Most first-year students do live on campus because of the ease of transition from home to campus life, access to university resources and the ability to make lifelong friends.

Students may participate in room selection as an individual or as a roommate group. Fall roommate groups may range from two to six individuals, depending on agreement type. Roommate groups will be limited to two individuals per group for Spring selection.

Single gender: Some colleges separate males and females into their own dorm buildings. Members of the opposite sex are allowed to visit but typically only during visiting hours. Coed by floor dorms: Some dorms are coed by floor, which means that males and females live separately on different floors.

A common arrangement would be a single-sex room or suite with a shared bathroom, but suites with males and females on the same floor. Most schools offer several types of living arrangements. They may have co-ed dorms and also single-sex dorms for individuals who prefer that kind of arrangement.

There are a few gender neutral restrooms on the UCF campus for students who need a safe space to change and to use a restroom without having to be restricted based on gender.
